A recent article in The Coast News by legendary surf journalist Chris Ahrens dives into the energy, nostalgia, and anticipation surrounding the upcoming CARV Expo, happening June 20–22, 2025, at the San Diego Convention Center.
In his piece, Ahrens reflects on decades of action sports culture—from shoulder-to-shoulder trade show chaos to sharing lunch with icons like Laird Hamilton and Kelly Slater. Those experiences, once hallmarks of the trade show scene, are being reimagined through CARV.
“The CARV Expo is a trade show for action sports and outdoor lifestyle retailers,” Ahrens writes, quoting CARV’s retail relations manager Abraham Paskowitz. “It’s a new event designed to bring together the industry, connect brands with retailers, and showcase the latest trends. The event aims to inspire, educate, and support authentic growth while maintaining a fun atmosphere.”
For Ahrens, CARV isn’t just another industry show—it’s a return to something real. With a deep connection to Surfer Magazine, a key CARV media partner, he’s especially excited about the cultural roots being honored in the process.
“Touch, examine, experience CARV,” he writes. “A note from your doctor or surfing 6-foot Trestles with nobody out are the only acceptable excuses for not attending.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
